Understanding Canine Behavior
Canine behavior isn't always easy to understand.
How many times have you asked yourself, "Why did my dog do that"? The thing is, no matter how closely we live our lives with our pets, no matter how in sync we are, dogs and people look at things quite differently.
If you want to understand canine behavior and what really makes your dog tick, then you have to look at life from his point of view. For dogs, it's all about where you fall into the scheme of things. Either you're top dog, or you're some place lower in the heap. So this means dogs like to test the limits, and sometimes this leads to behavior that, frankly, leaves us puzzled.
Dogs also take behavioral cues from their leaders, and they can sense the emotions of their caretakers. If you're feeling sad or anxious, your dog likely also feels those emotions. If you're feeling happy and excited, you'll see those emotions instantly reflected in your dog's own excited behavior. While this empathy can be comforting to a dog's people, it can take quite a toll on him. So, make sure you're aware of how your emotions affect your dog, and take care to help him feel confident and secure.
